thank the LORD its Autumn

Finally a decent day of Fall. Everyone's favorite season right? yeah...

Don't you love it when people are passive aggressive? I've been thinking about the term since someone in my life right now has been pulling it off well. It might be a term that is over used, but lets be informational today. I quote from the tome of wikipedia:
It can manifest itself as resentment, stubbornness, procrastination, sullenness, or repeated failure to accomplish requested tasks for which one is assumed, often explicitly, to be responsible. It is a defensive mechanism and, more often than not, only partly conscious.
See? At the heart of this condition is a disconnect between action and motive. For example...if I didn't want to go to your stupid worship service, and I was passive, I'd say "Um, maybe I can come in a couple years." If I was aggressive, I'd say "no", but if I was passive aggressive, I'd say "Yeah!!! I'll be there 15 minutes early and we can pray together!" but then I'd never show up. I mean, wouldn't show up for weeks kind of thing.

I realize three things (in typical pastoral fashion)
1) I am a passive aggressive whiz-kid. I do this crap all the time. But for me it is intentional. I really DO want to come to your birthday party. I just apparently don't want to come enough to show.
2) Passive aggressive people are everywhere. Is this because in our society we are encouraged to avoid how we really feel about something? Encouraged to put on a good face and it doesn't matter if you are straight with someone, as long as they walk away happy?
3) Passive-aggressive is a disconnect between what we say and what we do. Its almost an ignorance or shame of fear that what I REALLY think or feel, or whether I really plan on turning that report in, is something I cannot show you or admit to myself.

God is never passive aggressive. We should take a hint
