lost a friend

A guy named Doug Cross died recently. His funeral was today, so I want to tell you a story about Doug.

Actually, he's the kind of guy that you read about and hear about, but I had the pleasure of meeting him. Call him a preacher's dream.

When I came to Riverchase UMC I met this guy named Doug Cross in a Board of Stewards meeting. When I met him I was immediately struck by the fact he was almost a replica of his brother that I knew who is a Methodist pastor. We small talked some and before I left he asked if he could take me to Sams. I thought, oh yeah...thats really nice. And I didn't think he was serious.

A few weeks later, he actually made me come with him one Tuesday to Sams. We walked in and he says, "Okay. What do you need?" I was floored. So we went over and picked out some stools that would go great in my kitchen. I thought, sure...one stool. But he put three on our little cart and said, "Okay, what else?" So for about 30 minutes we just walked around Sams talking and putting random things onto this cart.

It was one of the nicest things someone has ever done for me. The greatest thing about it is he wasn't trying to buy my vote or sway my opinion about some issue. He was just being nice.

He'll be missed.

  3. God loves a cheerful giver. I don't really know too many, and I'm not one myself when it comes to stuff. Thank God for his love and gifts. Thanks for sharing his life at the time of his passing to the next one.
