What are we working to change?

We all want to change the world. But how will we do that?

Richard Foster once observed,
"We have real difficulty here because everyone thinks of changing the world, but where, oh where, are those who think of changing themselves?"
When faced with the prospect of changing who I am versus changing the world, I think I'm going to go with changing the world. Have you ever noticed that people are really good at fixing everyone else's problems and not taking care of their own? It's almost like if we slow down for just a sec, we will be faced with ourselves - all our failures, frailty, and finite reality. Better to just stay distracted.

Obviously that isn't true. I think we have to change ourselves first before we can possibly change the world. It takes so much mental energy to come to God with a moment of clarity and say, "Hey, have mercy on me, a sinner."

You should try it. See what happens if you can call a spade a spade in your life instead of in someone else's.

So tell me, what are you working to change?
